About The Position

Performs sonographic testing to record anatomical structures and their motions. Prepares patients psychologically and physically for examination. Operates an echocardiographic recorder during examinations, visualizes as many cardiac structures as possible, and selects appropriate tracings for the cardiologist. Carries out Houston Healthcare’s mission, vision, and quality commitment. Participates in a call rotation and must arrive within 30 minutes of notification. May perform other cardiology duties and may be trained for additional cath lab duties as required.

Requirements

• Completion of an approved/accredited ultrasound program or a two-year echocardiography program; education may be substituted with experience.
• 15 years of experience as a cardio/echocardiography technician; experience may be substituted with education.
• Current AHA/ARC BLS certification.
• RDCS or RCS certification, or obtain it within nine months.
• Successful completion of an HHC Basic Rhythm Interpretation Course or CLEP Exam within nine months of hire.
• Knowledge of cardiac terminology sufficient to communicate effectively with patients and medical staff.
• Knowledge of and ability to operate cardiac equipment commonly used in procedures.
• Compassion, good communication skills, patient focus, and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow physician instructions accurately.
• Ability to spend long hours on feet and work with a variety of patients.
