About The Position

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for building a robust culture of service by recruiting, onboarding, training, and engaging volunteers across all church ministries. This role ensures that ministry teams (e.g., hospitality, children, worship, facilities) are adequately staffed, and that volunteers are supported, recognized, and aligned with the church’s vision. This is an hourly position, initially anticipated to require approximately 20–25 hours per week. In addition to Sunday responsibilities (approximately 4 hours), the remaining hours can be distributed across Monday–Thursday as agreed upon, provided participation in key staff meetings (currently Monday and Tuesday mornings) is maintained. Flexibility is important in this role, including occasional evening or Saturday meetings, trainings, or ministry events. Weekly hours may be adjusted accordingly to accommodate these occasions.

Requirements

  • Experienced in team building, volunteer leadership, or ministry coordination
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to serve
  • Detail-oriented with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • High Level of Spiritual Maturity: Commitment to confidentiality, ministry-minded sensitivity, and a proven track record of discretion
  • Professional-level skills and experience with people, office or administrative work
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus and a vital growing personal relationship with Him.
  • A member at Eastside, regularly attending while embracing the mission and vision of NGC

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and implementing ministry involvement (or Serve) strategies as a part of the Adult Discipleship team.
  • Identify the volunteer opportunities available and the priority needs of the various ministries and teams throughout NGC.
  • Assist NGC members and other attenders in discovering their gifting in order to engage available volunteer opportunities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract new volunteers, including promoting opportunities during services, church communications, and events.
  • Oversee the screening process (including background checks), coordinate volunteer orientation, and ensure all volunteers are properly equipped for their roles.
  • Maintain an updated database of volunteer availability and skills to schedule volunteers for Sunday services and special events, ensuring all roles are covered.
  • Create and manage volunteer recognition programs and appreciation events to demonstrate the church's love and gratitude for their service.
  • Maintain the Volunteer Handbook and other general training materials related to serving ministry.
  • Act as the primary liaison between staff and volunteers, assessing needs across departments and providing ongoing support to volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer contact information, background checks, and hours of service.
