About The Position

The Earth Sciences Department/Natural Sciences Division is seeking adjunct instructors to teach a variety of courses ranging from geology to meteorology to climate science. Most courses are intended for general education non-major students with a small portion of Earth Science or Geology majors. The department has a variety of equipment and samples for geology and oceanography to use for demonstrations or hands-on experiences. Currently, lecture courses are available with the possibility of lab and field courses in the future.

Requirements

  • Master’s in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography or paleontology OR Bachelor’s in geology AND Master’s in geography, physics, or geochemistry OR Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
  • The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

  • Experience teaching undergraduate Earth Science courses for non-majors.
  • Experience in incorporating student-centered learning strategies and active learning pedagogy.

  • Examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, and classroom practices to effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with the goal of closing equity gaps.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrate how diversity factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within the classroom.
