About The Position

The Early Intervention Specialist for Head Start supports the development, coordination, and implementation of strategic initiatives that enhance instructional quality, ensure compliance, improve service delivery, and promote positive outcomes for children with disabilities. This role leads to data-driven planning, provides instructional and programmatic support to staff, and ensures alignment with IEPs/IFSPs, curriculum expectations, and evidence-based practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, early childhood education, child development, psychology, human services, or related field
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for day-to-day job performance.
  • Must pass the State of Michigan Child Care Background Check.
  • Observation and assessment ability.
  • Knowledge of child development milestones.
  • Strong communication, coaching, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use data to evaluate and strengthen special education systems.
  • Commitment to equitable, inclusive, student-centered practices.

  • Experience working with low-income families and diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, curriculum modifications, behavior interventions, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate cultural competence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and implementation of special education strategies that support effective instructional programs for students with disabilities.
  • Review program effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and support teachers in problem-solving and implementing appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Facilitate parent education workshops and support groups.
  • Help create and implement individualized plans (like IFSPs or IEPs).
  • Analyze student performance, IEP outcomes, and service delivery data to inform planning and improve educational programming.
  • Support continuous improvement processes to ensure programs meet legal requirements and align with high-quality instructional practices.
  • Provide coaching, modeling, and guidance to teachers and support staff on curriculum modifications, accommodations, behavioral supports, and evidence-based practices.
  • Deliver training on best practices in special education, including behavior management, inclusive instruction, and differentiated teaching strategies to support diverse learners.
  • Provide resources and guidance on child behavior, routines, and learning.
  • Use play-based and evidence-based strategies to build skills.
