About The Position

This position is for an Early Childhood Teacher within the Early Childhood Teacher Pool for the 27-28 School Year at ORANGE GROVE ELEMENTARY. The teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, creating a conducive learning environment, and guiding the learning process towards curriculum goals. The role involves assessing student accomplishments, diagnosing learning disabilities and developmental delays, counseling with colleagues, students, and parents, and assisting administration with school policies and student conduct. The teacher will also plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants and/or volunteers, strive for professional competence, and attend staff meetings and serve on committees. Other duties may be assigned by the Principal or appropriate administrator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Certification as required by the state of South Carolina in Early Childhood Education
  • Other professional and personal qualifications deemed necessary to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
  • Regularly required to walk, sit, stand, and reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, and crouch.
  • Duties may involve risk resulting from attending to students' behavioral needs.
  • Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.
  • Sufficiently mobile to ensure the safety of students.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry.
  • Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.

Responsibilities

  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guides the learning process and development toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate those objectives to students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students and developmental delays on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents regularly.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher assistant(s) and/or volunteer(s)and, cooperatively, with the department head or principal, evaluates their job performance.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
