About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for Early Childhood Educator 2 at the Lynn Bennett Early Childhood Education Center. This Head Teacher position at the UNLV/CSUN Preschool requires working knowledge of child development across various domains (physical, social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic, and general learning competencies) and the application of teaching strategies that address these domains. The role also involves understanding family relationships in early childhood education, designing play-based learning environments, utilizing observation and assessment tools, adhering to emergency protocols and ethics, and creating effective indoor/outdoor learning environments. The ability to plan activities, contribute to curriculum, respond positively to children's behavior and distress, implement guidance approaches, set up learning environments, collaborate with supervisors on family communication, participate in parent-teacher conferences, support children with special needs, practice emergency drills, ensure a safe learning environment, and work with diverse populations, promoting inclusion and belonging, is essential. The position also supports experiences for future teachers.

Requirements

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, early childhood education, or closely related field and two years of experience teaching children in a child care, pre-school, or group setting to include implementation of curricular activities and environmental design, supporting developmental assessments, establishing relationships with families, and ensuring the health, wellness, and safety of children.
OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as described above.
OR one year of experience as an Early Childhood Educator I in Nevada State service.
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background screening.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood or related field and at least two years of experience working in an early childhood setting preferred or combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

Plan activities and contribute to curriculum to address children’s learning across developmental domains.
Recognize and positively respond to children’s behavior, developmental, and/or emotional distress.
Identify and participate in appropriate guidance approaches.
Assist in the design of the learning center.
Set-up the learning environment and implement schedules to promote competencies in all developmental domains.
Collaborate with supervisors in communicating with families regarding issues of concern.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences to review children’s assessment data.
Adhere to plans for children with disabilities or special needs.
Practice emergency drills with children.
Implement a safe and effective environment for learning.
Work with children and families of diverse backgrounds.
Convey inclusion and belonging of diverse backgrounds.
Support experiences for future teachers.
