About The Position

The World Bank’s Governance Department is hiring an Extended Term Consultant (ETC) to provide dedicated technical and operational support to its Sustainability Governance Program and the Secretariat for the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action (CFMCA). The role contributes to global knowledge, tools, and scalable solutions on sustainability governance and works with regional and country teams to translate these approaches into practical support for Ministries of Finance and other central finance institutions. It calls for technical expertise and understanding of government processes and cross-cutting environmental issues, including climate change and disaster risk finance and management. Prior experience in a Ministry of Finance or another central finance agency is a significant advantage. For the Sustainability Governance Program, the consultant will support policy advice and operations related to the Bank’s climate agenda; develop analytical resources; conduct institutional assessments; advise Bank staff on climate governance projects and analytical work; support capacity building; and cultivate partnerships across Bank units and with external stakeholders. For the CFMCA Secretariat, the consultant will support the Coalition’s Helsinki Principle 4 workstream and thematic priorities. Work includes coordinating capacity building and working groups, developing policy guidance and peer-learning activities, synthesizing member practices, preparing materials for high-level meetings and events, supporting communications and Secretariat reporting, and maintaining the HP4 page on Coalition channels. The consultant works under the leadership of the Global Lead for Sustainability Governance and reports to the WKPGF Practice Manager, while also working under the general direction of the CFMCA Secretary to deliver tasks with minimal supervision. This is a one-year Extended Term Consultant appointment, locally recruited in Washington, DC. English is required; Spanish and French are preferred.
