About The Position

eCornell delivers online certificate programs designed by Cornell University faculty. Course facilitators play a central role in creating dynamic, engaging, and highly interactive learning experiences, focusing on live interactions, meaningful feedback, and authentic engagement. This role complements asynchronous course content by leading live sessions, providing personalized feedback on assignments and projects, coaching learners, and fostering connections with students in an online environment. Video interaction with students is a key component of the role, including live video sessions and responses to project submissions.

Requirements

  • Professional experience in semiconductor manufacturing, nanofabrication, microfabrication, or a closely related field, including familiarity with cleanroom process flows.
  • Understanding of foundational photolithography processes, including substrate preparation, photoresist coating and development, mask/reticle concepts, exposure methods, alignment, inspection, and downstream pattern-transfer considerations.
  • Working knowledge of wet and dry etching methods, including process selection based on etch rate, selectivity, directionality, uniformity, surface quality, and reproducibility.
  • Ability to explain plasma-based etching concepts, including RIE fundamentals, process variables, material interactions, and common etch-profile defects.
  • Ability to connect lithography and etching decisions to device performance, yield, throughput, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Comfort interpreting technical visuals and data, including tool schematics, wafer maps, SEM images, etch profiles, process recipes, and simulation outputs.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to professionals with varied technical backgrounds and use relevant industry examples to help learners apply course concepts.
  • Comfortable facilitating live online discussions, providing timely and impactful feedback to busy professionals.
  • Possesses exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable with technology for instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years of professional experience in semiconductor manufacturing, with the ability to explain core photolithography and etching concepts within modern semiconductor and nanofabrication environments.
  • Ability to examine the evolution of lithography, photoresist processing, projection systems, process simulation, wet and dry etching, plasma etching, and advanced methods such as ICP, DRIE, ALE, and in-situ metrology.
  • Ability to evaluate process trade-offs involving resolution, alignment, selectivity, directionality, yield, throughput, and cost.
  • Ability to emphasize practical process-selection and troubleshooting skills applicable to communicating, planning, or supporting fabrication work in cleanroom and manufacturing settings.
  • Fifteen or more years of semiconductor, MEMS, nanofabrication, or cleanroom-process experience.
  • Significant experience in lithography and plasma-etch process development, optimization, troubleshooting, or technology transfer.
  • Hands-on familiarity with advanced lithography tools, RIE/ICP/DRIE systems, metrology, and process-control methods.
  • Ability to share practical examples involving yield improvement, defect reduction, equipment constraints, and high-volume manufacturing decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging live sessions that engage students in discussion of semiconductor manufacturing-related topics.
  • Provide personalized and constructive feedback (written and recorded video) on discussion boards, assignments, solution designs, and applied projects.
  • Coach learners to connect semiconductor manufacturing topics to real-world business and technical settings.
  • Foster meaningful connections with students in a highly interactive online environment.
  • Lead dynamic live discussions that foster interaction and deepen understanding.
  • Deliver clear, constructive, and authentic feedback on student submissions, including recorded video responses.
  • Manage online discussions, respond promptly to student inquiries, and track student progress.
  • Facilitate a minimum of 1-2 courses per month with consistent engagement and preparation.
  • Complete an in-depth onboarding program, including shadowing live courses, participating in debrief sessions, and mastering the assigned certificate program.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with emerging learning methodologies, educational technologies, and best practices in online facilitation.
