About The Position

Pender Veterinary Clinic is seeking compassionate, team-oriented, and communicative 1st through 4th-year veterinary students for a DVM Student Externship. This externship offers a unique opportunity to enhance education through real-world experiences in a progressive, fast-paced mixed animal practice. The clinic has been serving the community for over 50 years and offers a wide range of services including preventative care, surgery, urgent care, dentistry, in-house diagnostics, digital radiology, ultrasonography, grooming, and vacation boarding. The practice sees approximately 60% large animal (feedlot, cow/calf, swine, small ruminant, equine) and 40% small animal cases. Large animal work includes pregnancy checking, ultrasound, bull fertility exams, calving season assistance, and vaccination programs. Small animal work includes examinations, dentals, and basic surgeries. The clinic is located in Pender, Nebraska, with a satellite clinic in Emerson, Nebraska. The rural setting offers a healthy work-life balance with proximity to Omaha for entertainment and shopping. Pender public schools are also well-regarded.

Requirements

  • Must be an Active Veterinary Student from an AVMA Accredited Institution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to large and small animals.
  • Assist with preventative care, surgery, urgent care, and dentistry.
  • Utilize in-house diagnostics and digital radiology.
  • Perform or assist with ultrasonography.
  • Participate in feedlot, cow/calf, swine, small ruminant, and equine work.
  • Assist with pregnancy checking, ultrasound work, bull fertility exams, and calving season work.
  • Administer vaccination programs.
  • Conduct examinations and basic surgeries for small animals.
  • Enhance education through real-world experiences.
