About The Position

The Columbia, Montour, Snyder, and Union County Drug and Alcohol Unit is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to assist in providing prevention services to schools and the community. This Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee role offers hands-on experience in key drug and alcohol prevention, education, training, and community development activities. The position aims to help young people establish a strong foundation for their future while building a rewarding career in public service. The role involves participating in various drug and alcohol use and abuse prevention activities, working with local school districts and partners to educate students, staff, families, and community members on these issues.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance will be required upon a conditional offer of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide programs, presentations, and events regarding drug and alcohol use and abuse, speaking effectively to various audiences.
  • Distribute a wide variety of media, including printed information and movies, to enhance awareness of drug and alcohol related issues.
  • Participate in community groups and coalitions aimed at preventing substance use and abuse among school students by promoting healthy lifestyles and enhancing protective factors.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret data from local schools and communities to assist with prevention planning.
  • Complete service-related data entry, record keeping, and reports to meet county and state requirements.
