About The Position

The Driver/System Operator (DSO) performs aviation fuel servicing operations at NAS Whiting Field. The role requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Hazmat endorsements. DSOs operate mobile fuel servicing equipment and trucks, portable pantographs, hose sets, and fixed direct fuel servicing systems (hydrants) to refuel and defuel aircraft or systems. Depending on the assignment, a DSO may also perform hot refueling pit operator (deadman control), nozzle operator, or fire watch duties within a pit operation. DSOs must use appropriate radio procedures and understand safety regulations for aviation and ground fuel servicing on and around the airfield and supported activities. Before operating fuel servicing equipment without supervision, they must pass contractor-administered base and flightline familiarization and practical equipment/facility competency tests, and be certified by the contractor. Training records must be updated, and personnel must be recertified annually or when requested by the COR. Unless specifically directed by the contract officer, the contractor is not responsible for staffing the fire watch, nozzle operator, or refueling director/coordinator positions; the unit receiving services provides all staffing other than the fuel system or pit operator. Drivers must be licensed under the applicable vehicle laws and regulations of the state where they operate and remain compliant throughout their employment under the contract. Drivers operating vehicles or equipment on public roads must hold a license for the applicable vehicle class. All service personnel operating fuel-servicing vehicles on or off station must hold a current, valid state-issued CDL. Any additional licenses, skills, training, or certifications required for specific tasks must be documented in employee training records and made available to the government upon request.
