About The Position

The Dr. Loyd V. Allen USP Compounding Grant-funded Experiential Internship is a program designed to provide an early career pharmacist or other healthcare professional with knowledge and experience in pharmaceutical compounding at USP. This grant honors Dr. Loyd V. Allen, Jr., a significant figure in compounding pharmacy. The program is supported by ARL BioPharma and managed independently by USP for candidate selection and work oversight. The selected candidate will engage in projects related to USP compounding standards, research current trends, develop implementation tools, conduct laboratory studies, and support Compounding Expert Committee activities.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences (e.g., Ph.D., PharmD)
• Must not be concurrently employed.
• Pharmacy residents and fellows are eligible but will need to provide USP with written permission from their programs to participate in this education grant opportunity.
• Strong interest in compounding, regulatory affairs, and standards development.
• Ability to conduct research (literature, web, USP internal data) and write about their research (e.g., peer-reviewed journal articles).
• Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

• Development of a deep understanding of USP compounding standards and stakeholder engagement
• Research on current trends and developments in pharmaceutical compounding such as innovations in facility design, quality assurance and quality control, compounding of investigational substances, handling hazardous drugs, and emerging technologies.
• Development of Implementation Tools for USP compounding standards, including external communications, educational course development, and digital resources.
• Laboratory Studies and Monograph Development, including evaluation and analysis of method validation and stability reports
• Supporting Compounding Expert Committee activities, including contributing to planning and organizing activities of expert committees on special compounding topics.

Benefits

• A one-time stipend of $5,000 to support personal logistics (e.g. travel and temporary housing), registration and attendance at relevant conferences, and other grant-related costs.
