About The Position

The Experience Associate (Doll Hair Stylist) creates memorable experiences for American Girl guests and their families by delivering engaging, personalized doll salon services. The role combines doll hairstyling expertise, product knowledge, and exceptional guest service to support guest satisfaction and sales opportunities. Through collaboration, attention to quality and safety standards, and support of daily salon operations, the Experience Associate contributes to the overall success of the American Girl retail experience. The American Girl Retail team provides in-store experiences that may include doll salons, restaurants, personal shopping, ear piercing, and parties or celebrations. This is a dynamic, fast-paced role that involves engaging with guests, supporting the team, and adapting to business needs.

Requirements

Ability to learn and perform doll hairstyling techniques while maintaining American Girl’s service and quality standards.
Strong guest-service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage positively with children and families.
Ability and willingness to perform ear-piercing services for girls after required training and certification, following established procedures.
Ability to communicate product knowledge, explain salon services, and recommend complementary products to guests.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, including the ability to support training of new associates.
Organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain salon supplies, inventory, and service areas.
Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and support multiple areas of the retail store.
Ability to work a flexible retail schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Demonstrated growth mindset, curiosity, willingness to learn, and commitment to improving.

Nice To Haves

Previous sales experience in specialty retail or a customer-focused service environment.
Experience styling hair, particularly doll hair.

Responsibilities

Deliver exceptional guest service by proactively engaging guests, understanding their needs, and creating welcoming, memorable experiences that reflect American Girl’s service standards.
Perform doll hairstyling services according to company standards, demonstrating proper doll hair and skin care techniques to educate guests and ensure consistent service quality.
Perform ear-piercing services for girls and dolls after completing required training and certification; follow established procedures, complete required documentation, and communicate aftercare instructions.
Recommend salon services, complementary products, and current promotions by sharing product knowledge and identifying opportunities to enhance the guest experience and support sales.
Maintain an organized and well-stocked salon service area, monitor supplies, and communicate inventory replenishment needs to management.
Participate in salon events, hairstyling demonstrations, Doll Hair and Manicure Day activities, and private birthday parties.
Collaborate with team members, help train new associates, and support other areas of the store based on business needs.
