About The Position

The Experience Associate (Doll Hair Stylist) creates memorable experiences for American Girl guests and their families by delivering engaging, personalized doll salon services. The role combines doll hairstyling expertise, product knowledge, and exceptional guest service to support guest satisfaction and sales opportunities. Through collaboration, attention to quality and safety standards, and support of daily salon operations, the Experience Associate contributes to the overall success of the American Girl retail experience. The role involves engaging guests, performing doll hairstyling services, recommending salon services and products, and helping maintain an organized, well-stocked salon. After completing required training and certification, the associate may perform ear piercing services for girls and dolls. The associate also participates in salon events and parties, collaborates with the team, helps train new associates, and may support other store areas as business needs require.

Requirements

Strong guest service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage positively with children and families.
Ability to learn and perform doll hairstyling techniques while maintaining American Girl service and quality standards.
Ability and willingness to perform girl ear piercing services following required training, certification, and established procedures.
Ability to communicate product knowledge, explain salon services, and recommend complementary products.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, including the ability to support training of new associates.
Organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain salon supplies, inventory, and service areas.
Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and support multiple areas of the retail store.
Ability to work a flexible retail schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Demonstrated growth mindset, including curiosity, continuous learning, embracing challenges, and self-improvement.

Nice To Haves

Previous sales experience in specialty retail or a customer-focused service environment.
Experience styling hair, particularly doll hair.
Experience working with children.

Responsibilities

Proactively engage guests, understand their needs, and create welcoming, memorable experiences that reflect American Girl’s service standards.
Perform doll hairstyling services according to company standards, demonstrating proper doll hair and skin care techniques to guests.
Perform ear piercing services for girls and dolls after completing required training and certification; follow established procedures, complete required documentation, and communicate aftercare instructions.
Recommend salon services, complementary products, and current promotions using product knowledge to enhance the guest experience and support sales.
Maintain an organized and well-stocked service area, monitor salon supplies, and communicate inventory replenishment needs to management.
Participate in salon events, hairstyling demonstrations, Doll Hair and Manicure Day activities, and private birthday parties.
Collaborate with team members, help train new associates, and support other store areas based on business needs.
