About The Position

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a federal-state vocational program dedicated to helping people with physical or mental disabilities be successful in employment. This advertisement may be used to fill future vacancies in Area 3 for up to 6 months. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in counseling, job placement, job coaching, or public vocational rehabilitation program can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Ability to interview clients to identify needs.
  • Ability to provide information and referral services.
  • Ability to locate and develop community resources.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information on internal and external customers.
  • Ability to use agency automated systems.
  • Ability to participate in a unit team.
  • Level 2-employment screening in accordance with the requirement of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment of being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
  • Fingerprinting for statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews participants to assess their resources and complete referrals for appointments.
  • Implements necessary procedures to acquire or purchase medical/psychological information and arranges for the necessary medical evaluations at the direction of the counselor.
  • Schedule appointments for treatment.
  • Accompanies participants when purchasing clothing, tools, equipment, or similar items.
  • Resolves transportation issues.
  • Follows-up on cases and maintains participant contact through telephone calls and email.
  • Provide support to counselors in managing financial authorizations to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with budgetary guidelines.
  • Maintains specialized records, compiles information on costs, budgets and other data for reporting purposes.
  • Coordinates out-of-area services for participants, as needed.
