About The Position

The primary purpose of this Rehabilitation Counselor I position is to identify blind or visually impaired persons whose disability creates a substantial impediment to employment and enable them to obtain employment. This is achieved through the provision of a planned program of rehabilitation services including job development and placement services and direct interaction with employers in the community to assist the person in achieving employment commensurate with his/her skills, choice, interests and capabilities. The counselor in this position is primarily responsible for providing and coordinating these services to individuals who are blind and visually impaired in the counties of Robeson, Harnett, Sampson. The Division of Services for the Blind provides services to people who are visually impaired, blind and deaf-blind to help them reach their goals of independence and employment.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Master’s degree in a related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification
