FT Dockworker - Garland, TX - GTX
About The Position
The Dockworker sorts and handles freight moving in and out of over-the-road equipment, containers, city trailers, and straight trucks. The role operates forklifts and pallet jacks to load and unload freight, secure shipments, and support timely, claims-free, cost-efficient transportation. The position requires following applicable regulations and established shipping and quality-control procedures, reporting freight shortages and damages, and maintaining a safe, clean work environment. This opportunity is available full time or part time in Garland, Texas. Pay is $26.85–$30.80 per hour, based on experience. The work may involve varying schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, according to operational demands, and exposure to changing temperatures and weather conditions in dock and yard areas.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Able to read, write, communicate, and comprehend English to perform job tasks, understand instructions and regulations, respond to inquiries, and complete required shipping documents, reports, and records.
Nice To Haves
- Warehouse, freight, dock, forklift, or pallet jack experience.
- Forklift certification or hazmat training.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when verifying shipments.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment in compliance with state, federal, and Department of Transportation regulations.
- Operate dock tools and maintain straps, bars, air bags, cardboard, and dunnage to secure freight properly.
- Load, recoup, rewrap, and stack freight as needed.
- Read labels to verify shipments and secure freight correctly for loading and unloading trailers.
- Follow established bill and quality-control procedures to support timely, claims-free, and cost-efficient shipments.
- Log, report, and process freight shortages and damages.
- Promote and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
