About The Position

Under limited direction, the LINAC2 Division Leader provides strategic leadership, technical oversight, and long-term planning for Linac activities under the Accelerator Directorate. This role is responsible for directing Fermilab’s Linac operations and Linac2 integration into the accelerator complex. The Division Leader drives technical excellence and organizational performance through forward-looking program development, resource stewardship, and alignment with DOE OHEP mission priorities and laboratory-wide goals. Responsible for budget and resource planning, along with full human resources management for the LINAC2 Division.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in accelerator physics, particle physics, or relevant discipline with 10+ years of experience
  • Experience leading large organizations

  • Recognized expertise in Accelerator Technology
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project planning skills

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes long-range strategic plans for the LINAC2 portfolio aligned with DOE OHEP and laboratory priorities.
  • Oversees strategic development of accelerator capabilities, infrastructure, and workforce expertise.
  • Ensures integration with crosscutting laboratory initiatives and infrastructure planning.
  • Leads collaborative planning efforts with other divisions.
  • Provides oversight of all LINAC2 systems and programs, ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, budget, and scientific impact.
  • Leads integration of the Linac2 into the accelerator complex.
  • Exercises full authority over division personnel actions including hiring decisions, promotions, performance evaluations, professional development, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Attracts, develops and retains human capital to sustain division capability.
  • Supervises scientific and technical personnel executing major programs and projects; oversees project design, scheduling, and budget development.
  • Fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and high‑performing environment; ensures effective organizational structure, succession planning, and mentoring for scientific, technical, and operational roles.
  • Oversees division budgets, resource allocations, and operational planning.
  • Develops and controls project budgets, schedules, and technical baselines.
  • Ensures compliance with DOE and laboratory operational, reporting, and ES&H requirements.
  • Supports long-term infrastructure planning, systems upgrades, and facility capability improvements.
  • Represents accelerator capabilities in national and international design reviews and technical advisory groups.
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
