About The Position

CVS Health District Support Pharmacists travel within a district to cover pharmacist scheduling gaps and support pharmacy teams under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager and Rx District Leader. While working in district stores, the pharmacist supports pharmacy management, oversight, and operations, and may serve as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy or assume the manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty. The role delivers patient care through safe dispensing, counseling, immunizations, and pharmacist-delivered clinical services where permitted. It also supports pharmacy workflow, inventory management, patient experience, regulatory compliance, and a safe and inclusive workplace. The position requires travel within a reasonable radius and regular, predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.

Requirements

Active pharmacist license in the state where the store is located.
Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Must not be on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Ability to travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing as business needs require.
Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
Ability to concentrate, shift attention between tasks, and confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
Ability to provide friendly customer service, understand patient reactions, and respond appropriately.
Verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients and colleagues, including active listening.
Ability to use mathematics to calculate prescription quantities and days’ supply.
Ability to identify challenging patient or colleague interactions and select an appropriate course of action.
Ability to meet the physical demands described, including extended periods upright, lifting and handling items, reaching, repetitive finger movements, bending, close visual work, and communicating and receiving detailed information orally.

Nice To Haves

1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

Responsibilities

Help manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
Travel throughout the district to fill pharmacist shifts scheduled by the District Performance Coordinator.
Oversee pharmacy operations and serve as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts without overlap.
Follow and direct the pharmacy team to follow workflow procedures and safety guardrails to support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty.
Provide compassionate patient care, collaborate with patients’ healthcare teams, and proactively resolve insurance or medication issues.
Offer and deliver immunizations and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
Manage pharmacy inventory in the pharmacies worked, following best practices and protecting cold chain products.
Remain flexible to meet scheduling and business needs and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team environment.
Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills, complete required training and continuing medical education, and seek opportunities to expand knowledge.
Support access to care and patient outcomes through pharmacist-delivered clinical services, including testing and prescribing where permitted.
Comply with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS Health policies and procedures, including requirements related to patient safety, controlled substances, recordkeeping, privacy, security, and workplace safety.
Attend work regularly and predictably, including nights and weekends, and complete required training within designated timeframes.
Perform additional tasks as directed by a supervisor or manager.
