About The Position

This position is responsible for performing complex duties related to supporting various courts for the District Clerk's Office. It is Level I of II in Court Specialists. The role involves providing customer service, performing detailed legal procedures associated with court documents and case files, preparing and processing legal documents, interacting with various agencies, utilizing legal reference materials, preparing reports, reviewing court costs, scanning documents, conducting records management, assisting with jury selection, performing data entry, preparing dismissal dockets, processing attorney vouchers, reviewing e-Files, researching cases, mailing notices, entering court orders, maintaining responsibility for jury trials and juror payments, serving as a courtroom clerk when necessary, and attending trainings and meetings. Specific duties include processing and reporting cases to the state via CJIS, updating motions and orders, providing legal documentation to state agencies, and preparing TDCJ Pen Packets.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of clerical experience with one (1) year in a court or legal setting; OR one (1) year experience in a Williamson County Deputy District Clerk position
  • One (1) year cash-handling experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Texas driver’s license (Required within thirty (30) days of employment)

  • Prior experience with records management and e-Filing procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft applications

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service and performs detailed legal procedures associated with the receipt, review, processing and maintenance of court documents and case files
  • Prepares and processes varied legal procedures and documents
  • Interacts with various state, county, local and private agencies
  • Utilizes legal reference materials to perform research related to current laws and procedures
  • Prepares a variety of reports related to case management and compliance
  • Reviews and determines court cost
  • Scans all pleading documents received from court
  • Conducts records management by creating, retaining, distributing, and disposing files as necessary
  • Assists with jury selection process
  • Performs data entry of court proceedings, orders and outcomes based on court documents
  • Prepares and completes dismissal dockets
  • Processes and distributes attorney vouchers
  • Reviews and accepts e-Files as to the Judicial Committee on Information Technology (JCIT) Standards approved by the Supreme Court of Texas
  • Researches cases, mails notices, and enters orders of the court
  • Maintains responsibility for jury trials and payment of jurors
  • Serves as courtroom clerk, when necessary
  • Attends all trainings and meetings as needed
  • Performs special duties as assigned
  • Processes and reports cases to the state via Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS)
  • Updates motions and signed orders related to criminal and civil cases
  • Provides legal documentation to the Department of Transportation and other state agencies
  • Prepares TDCJ Pen Packets for defendants
