About The Position

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing entry level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This role involves responding to and investigating power quality issues for customers, providing support to other districts, traveling to customer locations to discuss issues and set monitoring equipment, and collaborating with team members to close out requests. The position also supports the development of conceptual and detailed scopes for the I&M 5-year work plan, analyzes system performance, collaborates with other departments to incorporate smart grid functionality, develops scopes for transmission rebuilds and new build projects, creates and maintains program files for system devices, and supports emerging projects focused on new technology. The role requires entry-level knowledge and experience in applying theory to solve well-defined problems with guidance, coordinating work activities, inputting into project planning, monitoring project status, preparing cost estimates, and using initiative in problem-solving and presenting new ideas. Effective communication, both verbal and written, and strong interpersonal skills are essential, as is a focus on customer service and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical team members. Regular local travel is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET (for Engineer Associate SG6).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology in a program accredited by ABET (for Engineering Technologist SG6).
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited bachelor's program (for Engineer SG7).
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology (non-ABET) plus a master’s degree or PhD in engineering technology from a university with an ABET accredited bachelor's program (for Engineering Technologist SG7).
  • Two or more years of related engineering experience (for Engineer SG7).
  • Two or more years of related experience in work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering technology principles (for Engineering Technologist SG7).
  • Strong focus on customer service required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to customers and other non-technical team members.
  • Comfortable working near/in low voltage equipment after provided training.

Nice To Haves

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.
  • Individuals with a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology can satisfy this degree requirement, if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Individuals with a master’s degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at the Engineer SG7 level.
  • A degree in engineering technology is the preferred degree; however, engineering degrees will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and investigate power quality issues for customers throughout district territory.
  • Provide power quality support to other districts as needed.
  • Travel to customer locations to discuss issues and set monitoring equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members to quickly close out requests.
  • Support development of conceptual and detailed scopes for I&M 5 year work plan.
  • Analyze system performance to ensure industry standard operation.
  • Collaborate with other departments to incorporate smart grid functionality into scopes to minimize customer outages.
  • Develop scope to coordinate with Transmission rebuild and new build projects.
  • Create and maintain program files for system devices.
  • Support emerging projects focused on new technology.
  • Coordinate work activities of others as required to resolve routine engineering tasks.
  • Monitors project status and recommends action accordingly.
  • Prepares cost estimates using established standards.
  • Develops understanding of the workflow for routine engineering projects.
  • Accomplishes work according to plans and schedules established by higher-level employees.
  • Actively seeks out information and understanding of engineering problems and solution techniques applicable to area of responsibility.
  • Applies basic techniques to perform analysis associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
