About The Position

This position is responsible for coordinating and executing engineering activities within Distribution Engineering. The role requires high technical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and excellent teamwork skills. The engineer will influence project decisions that have a moderate impact on the company, potentially leading employees or contractors in the commissioning of electrical systems and equipment. The role applies technical knowledge to promote a safe work environment and enhance customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited college.
  • Five years of applicable engineering experience or a combination of education and applicable engineering experience.
  • Master’s degree or a Puerto Rico PE License counts as one year.
  • Associate Certificate issued by the Puerto Rico Examining Board for Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Landscape Architects.
  • General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline, various installations, or services.
  • Business knowledge in the utility & regulated environment.
  • Proven experience applying sound judgment to make decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship development skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent team player and ability to prioritize assignments to meet commitments.
  • Problem-solving skills with proven ability to resolve engineering issues.
  • Mentor to junior engineers, specialists, and designers.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assignments in specialized areas requiring engineering expertise.
  • Prepares functional specifications for completeness and considers practical limitations.
  • Coordinates design activities as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers.
  • Reviews and authenticates designs.
  • Works in planning, coordination, budgeting, and cost estimating.
  • Develops and updates single line diagrams, design drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Supports material procurement.
  • Conducts QA/QC design reviews, and supports closing gaps and managing lessons learned.
  • Provides engineering support to field and construction groups.
  • Utilizes, develops, and improves engineering processes and standards.
  • Provides reporting, including presentations to work groups and management.
  • May be required to work extended hours including major storm restoration work and associated drills as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
