About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineering Supervisor who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is always maintained. If you join us in this role, you'll gain expertise in a variety of areas, including NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. Your greatest work is ahead! The Distribution Engineering Supervisor position is based out of our Ashville, NC office location. Candidates must able to work onsite at this location on a regular basis. This position will help support the Distribution Engineering manager in the administration of the team and the overall success of the organization in meeting its goals.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4+ years of prior relevant experience either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution is required
  • Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations.
  • Ability to provide your own reliable transportation, as some local, customer-related travel may be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited educational institution preferred ; Additional/Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree

Responsibilities

  • Assist the manager in the weekly project update meetings for the team.
  • Assist the manager with any performance reports or engineering reports required for the monitoring of project metrics.
  • Assist the manager with the vetting and interviewing of candidates for hiring.
  • Provide oversite in the organization and planning of all training for new hires for the team.
  • Assist the manager in client relationship focus for business development and growth within the project area of the team.
  • Assist the manager with performance assessment and feedback for temporary worker evaluations and conversion consideration.
  • Assist the manager with resource allocation and planning for the team in the workflow process.
  • Assist the manager with professional leadership development within the team.
  • Act as the interim manager when the manager is out for leave or other Leidos activities that require this delegation.
  • Assist with being a Team Lead for damage assessment activities in support of clients during storm events.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager.
  • Provide technical oversight, direction, and support for project teams. This will include work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects, using customer GIS and Work Management systems
  • Collaborate with other design leads on broad client issues including schedule adherence and team quality control
  • Review engineering design packages with clients; Perform functional tasks, planning, and/or customer follow-up
  • Perform scope analysis of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities
  • Oversee your team's engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW application
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and client design standards have been met.
