About The Position

Responsible for assisting in the safe and reliable operation, dispatching, and restoration of facilities for the AEP Distribution System as assigned. This posting covers multiple grade levels, from Distribution Dispatcher Associate through Distribution Dispatcher Senior, with opportunities for advancement. The successful candidate should live within 30 minutes of the Roanoke TCC Facility at 5495 Corporate Circle, Salem, VA 24153. Rotating shift work and high availability for call-out response are required. Candidates must be able to work under pressure during critical system conditions and handle diverse situations simultaneously. Critical decisions affect system reliability and service priorities; incorrect instructions may affect personnel safety, public welfare, equipment, revenue, and the company’s reputation.

Requirements

For Distribution Dispatcher Associate and Distribution Dispatcher: a bachelor's degree in any field; or an associate's degree in electrical or electronic technology; or a high school diploma with two years of experience in technical customer support and service, including successful multitasking and handling multiple programs or screens.
For Distribution Dispatcher Senior: an associate's degree in electrical or electronic technology, a bachelor's degree in any field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
Successful completion of the System Operator/Power Dispatching Selection System (SO/PD) is required for the Associate and Dispatcher levels.
For Distribution Dispatcher: successfully complete training and pass the Distribution Dispatcher examination.
For Distribution Dispatcher Senior: at least two years of experience as a Distribution Dispatcher, and successfully complete training and pass the Distribution Dispatcher Senior examination.
Rotating shift work is required.
Maintain high availability for call-out response.
Live within, or be willing to relocate to, 30 minutes of the reporting location.
Be able to work under pressure during critical system conditions and deal with diverse situations simultaneously.
Associate-level employees must complete required training and testing to progress to the next level within two years and to Distribution Dispatcher within four years, or vacate the position.
