About The Position

Responsible for assisting in the safe and reliable operation, dispatching, and restoration of facilities for the AEP Distribution System as assigned. The position is posted at multiple grade levels, from Distribution Dispatcher Associate through Distribution Dispatcher Senior, with opportunities for advancement. The successful candidate should live within 30 minutes of the Roanoke TCC Facility at 5495 Corporate Circle, Salem, VA 24153, or be willing to relocate within that distance because of call-out responsibilities. The role requires rotating shift work, high availability for call-out response, and the ability to work under pressure during critical system conditions while handling diverse situations simultaneously. Decisions affect system reliability and customer service priorities; incorrect instructions could affect personnel safety, public welfare, equipment, revenue, and the company’s reputation. The listed compensation range is $63,496 to $109,543. The job is classified as sedentary work, involving mostly sitting with occasional walking or standing and exertion of up to 10 pounds occasionally.

Requirements

Successful completion of the System Operator/Power Dispatching Selection System (SO/PD) is required for the Associate and Distribution Dispatcher levels.
For the Associate and Distribution Dispatcher levels: a bachelor’s degree in any field; or an associate’s degree in electrical or electronic technology; or a high school diploma with two years of technical customer support and service experience, including successful multitasking and handling multiple programs or screens.
For the Senior level: an associate’s degree in electrical or electronic technology, a bachelor’s degree in any field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
For the Senior level: at least two years of experience as a Distribution Dispatcher.
Rotating shift work is required, and the employee must maintain high availability for call-out response.
Must live within, or be willing to relocate to within, 30 minutes of the reporting location.
Must be able to work under pressure during critical system conditions and manage diverse situations simultaneously.
Must make critical decisions affecting reliability and customer service priorities; incorrect instructions could affect personnel safety, public welfare, equipment, revenue, or company reputation.
Associate level: satisfactorily complete required training and testing to progress to the next level within the Distribution Dispatcher Associate classification within two years, and to the Distribution Dispatcher classification within four years, or vacate the position.
Distribution Dispatcher level: successfully complete training and pass the Distribution Dispatcher examination.
Senior level: successfully complete training and pass the Distribution Dispatcher Senior examination.
