About The Position

The Engineer position is responsible to an assigned supervisor for engineering work and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge to accomplish objectives safely, effectively, efficiently, and economically. The role applies engineering design, project management, and maintenance knowledge to utility systems; supports knowledge-sharing through training and documentation; and analyzes business processes to recommend improvements. It requires working independently with minimal guidance and collaboratively with others, following AEP policies and applicable regulations, and providing training and guidance to coworkers. The position plans and oversees engineering projects from conception to completion, coordinating with peers, contractors, and regulatory authorities while meeting timelines, budgets, and regulatory requirements. Within P&C Engineering, the role supports protection and control engineering for electrical substations and transmission systems, including relay protection and control projects from 4 kV through 765 kV. Responsibilities span P&C scopes, settings, designs, protection studies, system impedance modeling, short-circuit analysis, NERC compliance documentation, project installation and commissioning support, technical coordination, peer review, troubleshooting, protection standards development, and project scheduling, resource planning, and cost control. The posting covers multiple grades, from entry-level Associate Engineer through Senior Engineer, with increasing education, experience, and certification expectations.

Requirements

  • Engineer Associate (Grade 6): Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
