About The Position

The Regional Transmission Planning position performs complex engineering activities and projects under an assigned supervisor, applying engineering knowledge to accomplish objectives safely, effectively, efficiently, and economically. The work includes load flow, congestion, short-circuit, and other planning studies; participation in competitive transmission windows and congestion analysis for generation acquisition; and area-wide studies to identify system improvements needed to address reliability deficiencies. The role also offers exposure to other disciplines and the four RTOs in which AEP operates. The engineer investigates problem areas, communicates findings to the broader team and management, and supports policy and financial decisions. The position follows company policies and applicable external regulations, provides guidance to lower-level employees as needed, and escalates issues appropriately. It calls for detailed documentation, initiative in resolving problems, collaboration with other disciplines and stakeholders, and clear presentations of studies and recommendations. The engineer makes decisions within established standards and procedures, assesses risks, communicates scenarios and results to management, and develops understanding of AEP's organization, budgeting and approval processes, economic analysis, utility regulation, and financing. The posting covers multiple grades, from Engineer Assc through Engineer Staff, with increased educational, experience, skill, and certification expectations at higher grades. The position is on-site in Corpus Christi or Tulsa.
