The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and dispatching field technicians to construction projects based on client requests, project requirements, technician qualifications, availability, and geographic location. The Dispatcher serves as a critical communication link between clients, project managers, engineers, field technicians, laboratory personnel, and office administration. This position requires excellent organization, attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment where schedules and priorities can change throughout the day. The Dispatcher is responsible for ensuring that all scheduled work is properly communicated, documented, and supported with the information necessary for technicians to successfully perform their assignments. This position operates in a fast-paced office environment supporting field personnel and construction projects. Because construction schedules frequently change, the Dispatcher must be proactive rather than reactive. The Dispatcher must be comfortable handling frequent telephone calls, emails, schedule changes, client requests, and interruptions while maintaining accuracy. Construction schedules may require early-morning communication and occasional extended hours depending on project requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn company scheduling and project management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize competing requests.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and appropriately escalate issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in dispatching, scheduling, construction, engineering, field services, logistics, or a related industry preferred.
  • Experience working with field technicians or mobile workforces preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and coordinate daily requests for construction materials testing and inspection services.
  • Schedule technicians based on project requirements, certifications, availability, location, workload, and skill set.
  • Maintain the daily and upcoming dispatch schedule and communicate changes promptly.
  • Assign technicians to the appropriate project, inspection, testing activity, or service request.
  • Monitor the schedule throughout the day and make adjustments as conditions change.
  • Coordinate emergency, same-day, cancellation, and additional service requests.
  • Identify scheduling conflicts and communicate them to management immediately.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel and optimize technician assignments based on geographic location and workload.
  • Confirm that technicians have sufficient information to locate the project and understand the required scope of work.
