About The Position

The Maryland Department of Labor Veterans Program is looking for an energetic Disabled Veterans Outreach Program / Local Veterans Employment Representative veteran who’s committed to assisting veterans and veteran spouses with qualifying employment barriers (QEB) visiting the American Job Center. The ideal candidate will have experience in case managing veterans and veteran spouses with their employment and training goals and objectives. Additionally, the candidate will have some experience advocating veteran and veteran spouse employment with businesses in the community. The ideal candidate should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team to locate and provide assistance and resources to veterans and eligible veteran spouses with qualifying employment barriers.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • One year of case management experience in the field of workforce development delivering a wide range of career services to special and targeted populations of job seekers. Case management duties are defined as taking job orders, conducting job-ready interviews, registering job applicants, verifying job referrals, conducting vocational placements, performing unemployment adjudications or appraising job applicants for employability.
  • Candidates must meet one of the following DVOP preference criteria for selection: 1.) Qualified service connected disabled veteran: 2.) Qualified eligible veterans; and 3.) Qualified eligible person (38 U.S.C. 4101(5)).
  • One (1) year of experience providing outreach to veterans

  • Prior case management experience

Responsibilities

  • Engage with state and local business services entities by attending meetings with agency representatives and employers to provide any staffing and information services necessary to assist new and existing businesses, and to promote veteran employment.
  • Provides intensive services to eligible veterans, and eligible spouses as defined in title 38 united states code (USC), paragraph 4103a(a). The goal is to assist eligible veterans and spouses to obtain or retain employment leading to self-sufficiency.
  • Provides services to job seekers by assessing their skills, and needs using the automated system to complete, review, and update customer registration.
  • Identifying potential job matches of job seeker skills with job qualifications.
  • Referring qualified job seekers to job openings by utilizing the automated system.
  • Sharing labor market information with customers to enable informed decisions on labor trends and economic condition.
  • Conducting employer outreach through telephone calls, emails, and site visits.
  • Disseminating labor market information to businesses to enable informed decisions on labor trends and economic conditions by using appropriate resource materials and automated systems
  • Promoting agency services, job fairs, compliance with Federal Contractor Job Listings (FCJL), federal and state veterans' incentive training programs, and positive recruitment efforts to develop entry level employment opportunities for eligible veterans and other eligible persons.
  • Promoting credentialing, and licensing opportunities for veterans
