About The Position

Responsible for building and strengthening relationships that support program growth and participant engagement across Adoption, Family Support, and Early Childhood Education services. This role works collaboratively with program teams to develop and implement outreach strategies that build program capacity, increase referral sources, and expand community awareness of services. The specialist partners closely with the Marketing and Communications Team to align program outreach and engagement efforts with broader agency initiatives. A key focus of this position is cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and referral sources to support and expand participant recruitment pipelines. The role also includes tracking and documenting program outreach activities, referral sources, and engagement outcomes in designated systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services field, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, program development or related roles within a nonprofit, social services or community-based setting.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and referral networks.
  • Experience developing and implementing outreach or engagement strategies to support program growth and participant recruitment.
  • Strong understanding of systems that support children, families, and community-based services preferred (e.g., adoption, family support, early childhood programs).
  • Experience working collaboratively across departments, including program staff and development/fundraising teams, is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively represent the organization in diverse community settings.
  • Knowledge of community engagement, outreach strategies, and partnership development.
  • Understanding of social service systems impacting children and families, including adoption, family support, and early childhood programs.
  • Familiarity with participant recruitment strategies and referral pipeline development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and other technology platforms for communication, tracking, and reporting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and effective engagement with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with team members, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work both independently and cross-functionally.
  • Strategic thinking and planning skills to develop and implement targeted outreach efforts.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data, identify trends, and improve outreach effectiveness and participation outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • The ability to frequently communicate with NCHS team members and community partnerships.
  • Able to inspect written communication and respond to directions and hazards.
  • Able to move equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs in the building and home structures.
  • Able to operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Able to remain in a stationary position and move about different work environments.
  • This position requires access to reliable and safe transportation. A copy of insurance and registration will be required upon hiring.
  • Must be able to adjust his/her work schedule to accommodate community outreach events and meetings requiring agency representation, including availability during evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Implement strategic outreach plans in collaboration with all NCHS programs and Marketing and Communications team to build and sustain program capacity.
  • Cultivate, build, and maintain strong relationships with community partners, referral sources, and key stakeholders to support participant recruitment and engagement.
  • Identify, establish, and expand new referral pipelines to increase community awareness and access to agency services.
  • Represent the organization within the community by participating in outreach events, meetings, and partnership opportunities.
  • Ensure all outreach communication, presentations and materials are within brand guidelines and approved by the Marketing and Communications Team.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Team to align community engagement efforts for program with broader agency initiatives, messaging, and growth strategies.
  • Work closely with program teams to understand program needs, target populations, and enrollment goals, ensuring outreach efforts are aligned and effective.
  • Track, document, and maintain accurate records of outreach activities for program, referral sources, and engagement efforts in designated data systems.
  • Analyze program outreach data, referral trends, and participation outcomes with director.
  • Monitor enrollment patterns and identify opportunities to strengthen participant recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by providing insights and recommendations to enhance program outreach effectiveness and community impact.
  • Ensure all program engagement activities are aligned with agency policies, compliance standards, and best practices.
