About The Position

This position is part of the Professional Development Fellowship program focused on providing access to an entry-level career pathway at Duquesne University. This position will be housed in the disability services department and focus on a variety of items such as mentorship, guidance, event planning and attendance, and general duties within our student life division. This position operates on a year-to-year contract basis with a maximum term of two years.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides mentorship to students on campus.
  • Provides ongoing support to students with disabilities, particularly those transitioning from high school to college.
  • Helps students develop self-advocacy, time management, and communication skills related to accommodation use.
  • Refers students to campus resources (e.g., counseling services, tutoring, advising, adaptive technology).
  • Collaborates with campus partners such as: Academic advising, Residence life/housing, Faculty, Counseling and health services.
  • Coordinates exam accommodations, including scheduling, proctoring logistics, and secure handling of exams.
  • Supports students in accessing assistive technology and alternative formats (e.g., accessible PDFs, captions).
  • Learns and assists with disability services software platforms (e.g., Accommodate).
  • Maintains accurate and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA, ADA, and institutional policies.
  • Documents student interactions, accommodation decisions, and service outcomes.
  • Follow established procedures to ensure consistency and legal compliance.
  • Support disability awareness initiatives and access-related programming.
  • Assist with presentations or trainings for: Faculty and staff, Student employees, Orientation or transition programs.
  • Stay informed about best practices, legal updates, and emerging trends in postsecondary disability access.
  • Provide general office support, including answering emails, managing appointments, and assisting with departmental projects.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
