About The Position

The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University seeks an academic educator and clinician to serve as Director of Surgical Simulation and Technology in the Department of Surgery and General Surgery Residency Program. The position is structured as 35% clinical responsibilities and 65% administrative responsibilities, with an academic faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Director leads the development and implementation of simulation-based surgical education programs, manages required simulation curricula and training programs—including ACGME and American Board of Surgery requirements—and ensures comprehensive training for residents and medical students in open, laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic surgical techniques. The role develops competency-based assessment methods, coordinates team-based simulation activities, and works with faculty to promote engagement in surgical education and skills training. As a core faculty member of the General Surgery Residency Program, the Director teaches, supervises, and mentors residents and students in clinical, simulation, and classroom settings. The Director supports resident-led scholarly activity, research, and quality improvement initiatives, serves as a professional role model and career mentor, and contributes to the College of Medicine’s educational mission. Clinical duties include surgical care and teaching and supervising residents and medical students in operative and patient care settings. The Director collaborates with university and hospital leadership to advance simulation technologies, secure funding, and expand educational capabilities. The role guides acquisition of advanced simulation equipment, supports development of an American College of Surgeons Accredited Education Institute, and ensures simulation resources serve surgical trainees and practicing healthcare professionals. Additional projects and responsibilities may be assigned in support of department strategic goals.
