About The Position

The Director of Surgical Services will direct the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and strategies for Surgical Services. This role involves developing departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements of the organization. The Director will plan, organize, and direct all staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education. Responsibilities also include preparing budgets, ensuring compliance with funding, coordinating audits, and directing clinical activities to achieve performance and quality control objectives. This position requires collaboration with physicians, administration, and directors to optimize operations and remove obstacles to achieving clinical quality, service excellence, and financial effectiveness targets.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing for an accredited program OR Associate’s Degree in Nursing with a Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare related field.
  • 5 years of nursing experience with 2 years leadership experience required.
  • Active RN license in the state of Alabama.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10 years nursing experience with 5 years leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the development and implementation of policies, procedures and strategies for Surgical Services.
  • Develop departmental goals, plans and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Plan, organize and direct all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepare budgets and ensures compliance with allocated funding.
  • Coordinate and directs internal/external audits.
  • Direct and evaluate all clinical activities, including care plan development, service level determination, and complaint management to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, administration and directors to develop streamlined operations where equipment, supplies and staff are utilized efficiently and resourcefully.
  • Remove obstacles to achieving clinical quality, service excellence and financial effectiveness targets.
