We are seeking a strategic, collaborative, and results-driven Director of Surgical Operations to lead and elevate our perioperative services. This role is responsible for the overall operational, clinical, and financial performance of surgical services while fostering a culture centered on patient safety, accountability, physician partnership, and continuous improvement. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
  • Minimum of 3 years of operating room experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership or management experience in perioperative or surgical services
  • Current BLS certification

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree preferred
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience leading surgical operations within an acute care hospital environment
  • Strong understanding of surgical scheduling, staffing models, and operational performance metrics
  • Demonstrated success leading change, improving engagement, and delivering measurable results
  • ACLS and PALS required within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 operational and strategic leadership for perioperative and surgical services
  • Oversee day-to-day operations including staffing, scheduling, patient flow, throughput, and resource utilization
  • Partner with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing leaders, and executive leadership to drive surgical excellence
  • Improve key performance indicators including: First-case on-time starts, Room utilization, Turnover times, Case volume growth, Quality and patient experience metrics
  • Develop and execute operational strategies to improve efficiency, patient access, and service delivery
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards including CMS, TJC, OSHA, and state requirements
  • Lead departmental budgeting, labor management, productivity, and fiscal stewardship
  • Champion quality improvement initiatives and leverage data to support decision-making
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop a highly engaged perioperative team
  • Support growth initiatives and identify opportunities to expand surgical services
