About The Position

Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Surgical Operations to provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for our perioperative services. This leader will oversee all surgical operations, including operating rooms and procedural areas, while driving quality, safety, efficiency, and service excellence. Requirements

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Active Illinois Registered Nurse license
Minimum of 3 years operating room experience
Current BLS certification

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or strongly preferred
Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
Minimum 3 years leadership or management experience in perioperative services
Strong background in surgical operations, staffing, and workflow management
ACLS and PALS required within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

Provide 24-hour leadership and accountability for surgical services
Oversee daily OR operations, scheduling, staffing, and workflow efficiency
Improve OR throughput, first-case on-time starts, and turnover times
Lead quality, safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives (CMS, TJC, OSHA)
Manage departmental budgets, staffing resources, and productivity
Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia, and hospital leadership to optimize surgical flow
Lead performance improvement initiatives using data-driven decision-making
Support service line growth and surgical program development
Recruit, develop, and engage a high-performing perioperative team
