About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Director of Surgical Services to provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for a high-volume Operating Room department within an acute care hospital setting. This role is responsible for overseeing surgical operations, physician relations, staff development, financial performance, quality initiatives, and service line growth while ensuring exceptional patient outcomes and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or approved equivalent educational plan.
  • Active California RN License.
  • Minimum 3 years of Surgical Services experience in an acute care setting.
  • Minimum 1 year of Director-level or strong Surgical Services leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of perioperative operations, budgeting, staffing, and quality management.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary surgical teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience with robotic surgery programs and advanced surgical technologies.
  • Experience supporting neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, spine, orthopedic, and general surgery programs.
  • Experience managing high-volume Operating Room departments.
  • Strong physician relationship management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations of a multi-specialty Operating Room department.
  • Oversee surgical throughput, block scheduling, patient flow, and room utilization.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians, executive leadership, and clinical teams to optimize surgical services.
  • Support robotic surgery programs and advanced surgical technology initiatives.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, capital planning, and financial performance.
  • Monitor staffing productivity, scheduling efficiency, and workforce utilization.
  • Analyze operational metrics and implement performance improvement strategies.
  • Lead recruitment, retention, coaching, and professional development efforts.
  • Foster strong physician relationships and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ensure compliance with patient safety, infection prevention, and quality standards.
