About The Position

The Director of Social Services leads and manages a comprehensive social services program at HELP USA’s Hamilton Hotel family shelter in Manhattan. The program aims to help residents move quickly into permanent housing and become self-sufficient. Services include assessments, counseling, service planning, and coordination with programs providing entitlements and medical, educational, substance abuse, employment, childcare, and mental health services. The Director supervises and develops the Social Services team and monitors departmental performance and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least five years of management experience, including experience working with people experiencing homelessness.
• Understanding of team concepts, preferably in a residential setting.
• Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in social work or a related field.
• Experience working with the NYC Department of Homeless Services.
• Understanding of the family systems approach to practice.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality services to residents through a team of Case Managers, Housing Specialists, and Employment Specialists.
• Coordinate case management services, including family assessments and the development and implementation of service plans.
• Serve as the point person for subcontractors and service providers, including medical providers, Board of Education personnel, mental health providers, and employment services providers.
• Identify changing program needs and gaps, and develop services, service directions, or programs to meet client needs.
• Provide supervision and training to Social Services team members to support individual and departmental professional growth and development.
• Act as a liaison with other department directors.
• Monitor and report departmental performance and statistics to ensure compliance with regulatory agency and funder requirements.
