About The Position

Responsible for directing, coordinating, and overseeing the division’s comprehensive secondary education program. Provides strategic leadership and operational support for instructional programming, school improvement initiatives, and specialty programs to promote high levels of student achievement and continuous academic growth. Leads the development and implementation of strategic priorities that support continuous improvement, student achievement, and college, career, and life readiness.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree
  • Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement in administration and supervision
  • At least five years of successful teaching experience
  • At least two years of recent experience as a division-level supervisor or building-level principal in the area of secondary education

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the planning and development of instructional programs 6-12
  • Collaborate with Instructional Leadership Services (ILS) staff and Curriculum Specialists to identify resources and implement instructional improvement strategies
  • Provide instructional leadership support and supervision for secondary schools, The Hanover Center for Trades and Technology, The Georgetown School, and the Health Sciences Specialty Center
  • Oversee Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and support Gifted Education, regional programs, and specialty initiatives
  • Assist principals and staff with the implementation and continuous assessment of middle school and high school instructional programs
  • Partner with principals and instructional teams to develop, implement, and sustain continuous school improvement efforts
  • Collaborate with principals and division-level staff to analyze data and formulate plans for achieving and maintaining accreditation relevant to state and national standards
  • Support principals in developing strategies, programs, and interventions to help students meet or exceed state standards and academic benchmarks
  • Serve as a liaison between secondary principals and central office departments regarding instructional programs and initiatives
  • Support high school principals in the implementation of specialized programs, including International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced College Academy, and Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC)
  • Assist principals in the development and implementation of the school’s comprehensive schedule
  • Provide leadership to principals in the development, implementation and evaluation of their annual goals
  • Interpret and communicate secondary instructional programs and initiatives to school personnel, families, community stakeholders, and media representatives
  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Leadership in the preparation, presentation, implementation, and monitoring of departmental budgets
  • Direct the development and management of secondary education budgets
  • Provide leadership in developing staffing recommendations for all middle and high schools
  • Assist division Superintendent with development, interpretation and implementation of local, state, and federal regulations
  • Assist principals upon their requests in evaluation of teachers
  • Assist in the planning, design, and delivery of professional learning opportunities for principals, teachers, and staff
  • Work as a team member within the ILS department to provide instructional services to schools
  • Support the development, review, and evaluation of new course proposals in accordance with established timelines and division procedures
  • Collaborate with the Department of Human Resources to screen, interview, and recommend instructional personnel
  • Assist in hiring, training, supervising and retaining principals, assistant principals, senior teachers, and curriculum specialists
  • Coordinate with the Director of Elementary Education to ensure alignment of curriculum, assessment, guidance, grants, and instructional initiatives
  • Provide leadership to principals in the development and implementation of summer school programs for grades 6-12
  • Assist in securing grants and alternative funding sources to enhance secondary education programs
  • Coordinate and support division-wide secondary events and programs, including graduation ceremonies, Hanover Salutes, and the Education Expo in collaboration with school and division teams
  • Facilitate the Superintendent’s Secondary Student Advisory Panel
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required
