Director, Product Design

The Director of Product Design at Descript will be responsible for managing and growing the product design and user research team. They will report to the VP of Product and play a crucial role in building a strong design team culture. The ideal candidate will have a passion for solving complex systems design problems and be able to lead and evolve the design process from discovery to delivery. Additionally, they will foster a culture of design excellence and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure delightful user experiences. This role requires excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, as well as a strong belief in the importance of details.

• Manage and mentor the product design team, helping them to do their best work and grow in their careers
• Lead and evolve the design process from discovery to delivery, ensuring user-centered, effective, and scalable designs
• Scale the design team and evolve design principles to enable quick and consistent iteration by product teams
• Collaborate with engineering, product management, product marketing, and leadership to deliver delightful user experiences
• Foster a culture of design excellence and continuous improvement in both product and design process

• 10+ years of experience in product design, with 5+ years as a design manager
• Experience on a fast-growing team in a fast-paced environment of uncertainty
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
• Demonstrated experience in application systems design and solving complex problems
• Strong knowledge of design tools, technologies, and process best practices
• Strong belief in the importance of details
• Experience building and/or working on a creation tool is a plus
