About The Position

NScale is seeking a Director of Power Supply Agreements to lead the negotiation and management of power supply agreements for its data center portfolio. This leader will be the primary owner of commercial power supply relationships, ensuring capacity, cost, and reliability targets are met. The role involves leading a team of engineers and analysts to support supply agreement analysis and execution. NScale is a GPU cloud provider focused on AI, aiming to reduce the complexity of AI development and support strategic business outcomes like cost management, innovation, and environmental responsibility. The Design and Construction team is crucial in delivering data center facilities optimized for AI deployments. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy, Finance, or a related field.
  • 8-12+ years of experience in power supply agreements, energy procurement, or utility commercial negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of power supply agreement structures, tariffs, and utility commercial terms.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Experience leading or mentoring a team.
  • Strong ability to interpret utility tariffs, produce rate calculations, and analyze overall power costs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Energy, or a related field.
  • Experience with data center or large industrial power supply agreements.
  • Familiarity with energy markets and renewable energy procurement.
  • Exposure to LCOE modeling and power economics as they relate to data center power procurement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the strategy for power supply agreements across the data center portfolio.
  • Evaluate power supply options, including utility service agreements, market purchases, and long-term contracts.
  • Track market conditions and recommend procurement approaches that balance cost and reliability.
  • Develop financial models and analytics documents to support energy sourcing decisions.
  • Monitor energy regulations and policies that have the potential to affect project constructability, capacity, and cost.
  • Lead negotiations for power supply agreements, tariffs, and related commercial terms with utilities and suppliers.
  • Partner with Legal and Finance to structure and finalize agreements.
  • Manage ongoing supplier relationships and monitor agreement performance and compliance.
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers and analysts supporting power supply agreement analysis.
  • Review and quality-check technical and commercial analysis supporting negotiations.
  • Set priorities and manage workload across an aggressive project pipeline.
  • Partner with Development, Finance, and Utility Development teams to align supply agreements with project timelines.
  • Communicate supply risks, costs, and trade-offs to internal stakeholders.
  • Support due diligence for new site selection based on power supply availability and cost.
