About The Position

The Director of Portfolio Planning and Alignment is a highly strategic and results-driven leadership role that oversees the portfolio planning, project intake & prioritization, demand management, and technology and innovation functions of the Organizational Excellence Department. This role involves building, maintaining, and continuously improving the department's capability to support the overall strategy of Avera through these core functions. The Director will oversee and develop leaders and teams of project management professionals, portfolio managers, program managers, and intake specialists while collaborating with cross-functional leaders at all levels to ensure the successful alignment of portfolio management support across the organization.

Requirements

Bachelor's Healthcare, Business Administration, Health Sciences or related field and/or 10+ years equivalent combination of experience and education.
Project Management Professional (PMP) - Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent. Upon Hire
10+ years related experience and/or training.
1-3 years leadership experience.

Responsibilities

Develop, promote, and maintain standard processes for program and portfolio management, project intake and prioritization processes.
Manage the stability, optimization, and growth of the Project & Portfolio Management (PPM) tool.
Assess portfolio planning support needs and team capacity, ensuring optimal assignment and alignment with organizational goals.
Improve and manage the operational integrity of project intake, prioritization, and demand management functions.
Ensure adherence to established portfolio and program delivery standards across the Organizational Excellence department.
Plan and manage team resources and budgets effectively.
Maintain reporting standards and meet departmental KPIs.
Cultivate a high-performance team culture focused on innovation, accountability, and continuous professional growth.
Create and deliver executive-level presentations, reports, and updates to senior management and the board.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
