The specific property for this role is OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark, located along the Oklahoma River in the Horizons District near downtown Oklahoma City. OKANA features a dynamic indoor waterpark, over 400 guest rooms and suites, various dining options, and 30,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces. The resort aims to provide a high-energy environment, combining world-class hospitality with a state-of-the-art indoor waterpark experience, focusing on memorable guest experiences and a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-focused environment for its team members, referred to as “curators.” The Director of Waterpark Operations will be a strategic, safety-driven, and operationally excellent leader responsible for all aspects of waterpark functionality. This includes ensuring a safe, engaging, and high-quality guest experience while driving operational performance, team leadership, and compliance within a high-volume aquatic environment. This leader will be a key member of the resort leadership team, partnering cross-functionally to deliver exceptional results aligned with OKANA’s standards of excellence.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in waterpark, aquatic, or high-volume recreational operations
  • Strong knowledge of aquatic safety standards, compliance, and risk management
  • Proven ability to lead large teams in a fast-paced, guest-centric environment
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and operational metrics
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Certification in lifeguarding, CPR/AED
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends, holidays, and peak seasons

Nice To Haves

  • Instructor-level certification in lifeguarding, CPR/AED

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all daily waterpark operations, including attractions, lifeguard services, guest services, cabanas, and retail areas
  • Ensure consistent execution of operational standards, SOPs, and service delivery
  • Partner with Engineering and Facilities to ensure all rides, pools, and equipment are maintained to the highest safety and operational standards
  • Lead all aquatic safety programs, ensuring strict adherence to local, state, and federal regulations
  • Maintain compliance with Ellis & Associates (or equivalent) lifeguard certification standards
  • Conduct routine audits, drills, and safety inspections to ensure a zero-incident culture
  • Ensure proper incident documentation, reporting, and follow-up
  • Lead, coach, and develop a large team of supervisors, lifeguards, and operational staff
  • Drive recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention strategies for seasonal and year-round staff
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement
  • Support leadership development and succession planning within the department
  • Champion a guest-first culture, ensuring safe, fun, and memorable experiences
  • Monitor guest feedback and implement service recovery strategies as needed
  • Partner with Marketing and F&B to enhance programming, events, and guest offerings
  • Develop and manage the waterpark operating budget, including labor, expenses, and revenue streams
  • Drive revenue through cabana rentals, retail, programming, and upsell opportunities
  • Analyze performance metrics and implement cost-control and revenue optimization strategies
  • Collaborate with resort leadership on long-term strategy and operational alignment
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and enhanced guest offerings
  • Support large-scale events, group business, and resort-wide initiatives
