About The Position

The Director of Talent Management & Organizational Effectiveness advances Webster University's mission and strategic priorities by leading initiatives that strengthen leadership capability, workforce effectiveness, employee engagement, and organizational performance. The position builds strategic partnerships across the University and Human Resources to develop and implement talent strategies that support institutional goals, enhance the employee experience, and foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and high performance. Provides strategic leadership for talent management, leadership development, performance management, employee engagement, talent acquisition, retention, policy administration, and employee recognition. Leads organizational and workforce needs assessments and oversees the design and implementation of a comprehensive learning and development ecosystem that supports leadership effectiveness, employee growth, and workforce readiness. Champions talent reviews, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives to strengthen organizational capability and leadership continuity. Provides strategic oversight of the student employment program and partners with university leaders to advance organizational effectiveness and support long-term institutional success.

Requirements

  • At least 7–10 years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience, including experience leading complex talent, organizational effectiveness, or workforce initiatives and supervising professional staff.
  • Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Management, Business, or other closely related field of study
  • Exceptional communication, consulting, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the University.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources principles and practices, including talent management, performance management, organizational development, workforce planning, and employment law compliance.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, drive strategic initiatives, and achieve results in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex issues, evaluate risks, interpret data, and develop practical, business-focused solutions that support organizational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted partnerships, exercise sound judgment, and navigate sensitive employee and organizational matters with professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives, facilitating change, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to achieve institutional goals.
  • Strong listening, coaching, and consulting skills with the ability to influence decision-making and support leadership effectiveness.
  • Proficiency with HR technologies, workforce analytics, Microsoft Office applications, and other business systems used to support data-driven decision making.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage competing demands, and maintain effectiveness in a demanding environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, customer service excellence, operational effectiveness, and fostering an inclusive and engaging workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership across the employee lifecycle, including workforce planning, talent acquisition, onboarding, employee engagement, retention, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Lead organizational needs assessments and develop a comprehensive learning and development ecosystem, including leadership development, compliance training, manager effectiveness, succession planning, and career development programs.
  • Oversee the University's performance management framework, providing guidance and coaching to leaders on goal setting, employee development, performance improvement, corrective action, and talent planning.
  • Partner with university leadership to foster a culture of accountability, engagement, continuous learning, and high performance aligned with Webster University's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Direct recruitment and talent acquisition strategies to attract, select, and retain a highly qualified workforce while ensuring an effective candidate, onboarding, and employee/student experience.
  • Develop, interpret, and administer HR policies, programs, and practices while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and university requirements.
  • Partner with HR leaders and university stakeholders to support employment-related compliance activities, including ADA, FMLA, wage and hour regulations, immigration sponsorship processes, unemployment claims, and other employment law matters.
  • Utilize workforce analytics, metrics, and reporting to identify trends, assess organizational effectiveness, and inform strategic talent and workforce decisions.
  • Lead employee recognition, communication, and engagement initiatives that strengthen organizational culture, employee/student experience, and workforce effectiveness.
