About The Position

A large acute care hospital in Anchorage is seeking an experienced Director of Surgical Services to oversee perioperative operations across a multi-specialty surgical services division supporting high-acuity inpatient and procedural care. This executive surgical leadership role is responsible for operational oversight of operating room services, staffing strategy, physician collaboration, patient throughput, financial performance, perioperative quality initiatives, and long-term surgical service line growth within a complex acute care environment. The ideal candidate is a strong perioperative operations leader with experience managing large surgical teams, optimizing OR efficiency, supporting physician partnerships, and driving service line expansion initiatives across multiple procedural specialties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Active RN license
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Director-level acute care Surgical Services leadership experience
  • Minimum 3 years of acute care Surgical Services experience
  • Strong perioperative operational leadership and physician collaboration experience

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Experience overseeing multi-specialty OR operations
  • Strong financial management and perioperative analytics experience
  • Background in high-volume surgical environments

Responsibilities

  • Direct operational oversight of perioperative and surgical services departments
  • Lead staffing strategy, scheduling optimization, labor management, and operational workflow efficiency
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia leadership, nursing leadership, and executive teams to support patient safety and procedural growth initiatives
  • Oversee budget planning, supply utilization, capital equipment management, and financial performance monitoring
  • Drive perioperative quality improvement initiatives, patient throughput optimization, and evidence-based surgical care practices
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, infection prevention protocols, and AORN best practices
  • Support service line expansion, physician engagement, and strategic growth initiatives across surgical specialties
  • Develop leadership teams through mentoring, coaching, performance management, and succession planning
  • Monitor operational metrics, patient satisfaction, staffing performance, and perioperative outcomes
