The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for Directing perioperative services. The Director will supervise and manage the performance of assigned Managers and personnel and serves as the liaison with internal organizational leadership. The Director is also responsible for development and implementation of the continuum of care, policies and procedures in the perioperative services, and long-term strategic plans that have organization wide impact. The Director will perform all functions within the scope of their practice as needed.

Requirements

  • Licensed as an RN in the State of Washington at the time of application.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
  • 3+ years combined experience in OR and Prep/Recovery Services
  • 5+ years of clinical experience
  • 3 + years in leadership.
  • CPR at the time of hire and maintained while employed.
  • ACLS, PALS, and TNCC within six (6) months of hire and maintained while employed.

Responsibilities

  • Directing perioperative services.
  • Supervising and managing the performance of assigned Managers and personnel.
  • Serving as the liaison with internal organizational leadership.
  • Developing and implementing the continuum of care, policies and procedures in the perioperative services.
  • Developing long-term strategic plans that have organization wide impact.
  • Performing all functions within the scope of their practice as needed.
  • Recommending, developing, and implementing policies and procedures for the Surgical Services Department.
  • Directing and ensuring the patient care delivered follows nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes positive outcomes, avoids harm to patients, and promotes health and healing.
  • Maintaining operational aspects of Surgical Services in collaboration with other service areas.
  • Providing leadership and direction in accordance with organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Developing, justifying, and maintaining a budget by monitoring patient revenues and operating expenses.
  • Organizing patient care and ensuring continuity of care based upon knowledge of patient needs.
  • Participating in quality assessment and improvement including utilization and promotion of familiarization with quality improvement standards and programs.

  • Operates Efficiently and Effectively: Develops and monitors department budgets. Manages staff including hiring, scheduling, performance evaluation and following the disciplinary process. Develops procedures and competencies for direct reports and ensures they are properly trained and educated. Develops department policy. Measures and monitors staff productivity. Identifies and initiates department process improvements. Procures or requests necessary resources to efficiently provide services. Mentors and guides potential leaders. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Applies Critical and Strategic Principles: Assists in developing strategic objectives to help achieve organization's vision. Assists in developing and implementing major cost reduction efforts when needed. Critically analyzes perspectives, alternatives, and potential impact when solving complex strategic and operational issues. Assists in negotiating contracts to assure provision of services.
