Director of Surgical Services
About The Position
A nationally recognized women's and children's specialty hospital in Houston is seeking an experienced Director of Surgical Services to oversee perioperative operations in a highly specialized environment focused on maternal, neonatal, pediatric, and women's health services. This leadership opportunity oversees a growing surgical division that includes advanced robotics, neonatal surgery, pediatric services, oncology, breast reconstruction, minimally invasive gynecologic procedures, and the development of a pediatric congenital heart surgery program. The Director will play a key role in operational excellence, strategic growth, physician collaboration, and team development.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Active Registered Nurse license
- Minimum 1 year of recent Surgical Services leadership experience as a Director or strong management-level experience
- Minimum 3 years of Surgical Services clinical experience
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, staffing, and operational performance
Nice To Haves
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field
- Pediatric nursing experience (NICU, Mother/Baby, Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics, or Pediatric Surgery)
- Experience within women's health surgical services
- Robotic surgery leadership experience
- Experience supporting program growth and service line expansion
Responsibilities
- Lead all operational, clinical, and financial aspects of Surgical Services.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety standards.
- Develop and implement evidence-based practices that improve quality outcomes and patient experience.
- Manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, productivity metrics, and resource utilization.
- Collaborate with physicians and executive leadership to support service line growth and program development.
- Drive employee engagement, retention, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives.
- Oversee patient flow, throughput, and care coordination efforts across surgical services.
- Monitor key performance indicators and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
- Support strategic initiatives related to robotics, pediatric services, and expanding cardiovascular surgical programs.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
