About The Position

Lakeside HR Group has been engaged by our client to recruit a Director of Strategic Growth to join their leadership team. Our client is a highly respected construction organization focused on strategic growth, long-term client partnerships, and securing high-margin negotiated work through relationship-driven business development. This executive-level position is responsible for driving business development initiatives, expanding strategic account relationships, identifying profitable opportunities, and leading pursuit efforts that align with the organization's growth objectives. The ideal candidate is a relationship-focused leader who thrives on creating long-term value through trust, market insight, and disciplined execution.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in commercial and/or industrial construction.
  • Proven success developing client relationships and securing profitable work.
  • Experience with negotiated, design-build, and relationship-driven project opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of construction estimating, preconstruction, project delivery methods, contracts, and risk management.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage strategic accounts and business development pipelines.
  • Strong business acumen with an emphasis on profitability and long-term value creation.
  • Highly organized with strong follow-through and accountability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments and stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with owners, developers, industrial clients, architects, engineers, brokers, and key decision-makers.
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans for priority clients.
  • Increase repeat business opportunities through proactive relationship management.
  • Ensure client commitments are documented, communicated, and fulfilled.
  • Identify target markets, growth sectors, and high-value client opportunities.
  • Monitor industry trends, development activity, procurement changes, and competitive intelligence.
  • Translate market insights into actionable growth strategies and pursuit plans.
  • Partner with leadership to align growth initiatives with organizational objectives.
  • Build and maintain a qualified business development pipeline.
  • Track opportunity stages, probability of award, timing, competition, and gross profit potential.
  • Develop accurate sales forecasts and growth projections.
  • Prioritize high-value opportunities and strategically disqualify low-return pursuits.
  • Create opportunities for negotiated, design-build, and relationship-based projects.
  • Lead go/no-go evaluations based on strategic fit, risk profile, operational capacity, and profitability.
  • Develop win strategies that clearly articulate client value and differentiation.
  • Collaborate with estimating, preconstruction, and operations teams throughout the pursuit process.
  • Lead discovery meetings, executive presentations, proposal reviews, and interview processes.
  • Tailor messaging to client priorities and business objectives.
  • Coordinate internal resources to ensure seamless pursuit execution.
  • Support contract negotiations and client onboarding activities.
  • Work closely with estimating, preconstruction, operations, and executive leadership teams.
  • Ensure client expectations are effectively communicated during project handoff.
  • Promote collaboration across departments to support successful project delivery.
  • Serve as a key ambassador for the organization in the marketplace.
