About The Position

The Hospice Director of Growth & Strategic Initiatives will manage Valir Hospice's business development team and set the strategic direction for census growth across its markets. This position will design and lead the business development system, generating measurable growth for service lines, while also owning longer-range growth strategy, including new market and service-line opportunities and the annual business development plan.

  • Minimum of 3 years leadership experience managing a team that produces results.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing growth or market strategy, ideally in healthcare or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Liaisons to maximize the number of referrals from key physicians, physician organizations, hospital accounts, managed care organizations, skilled nursing facilities, and other local market sources to meet hospice census goals.
  • Implements processes to track referral source engagement, account development activities, and sales pipeline progression across all territories.
  • Coordinates and maintains up-to-date information on competitors including pricing, census information, service line information, clinical services, and sales strategies.
  • Monitors census and payer mix trends, developing and implementing strategies to overcome census challenges and barriers when necessary.
  • Ensures timely completion of referrals to admissions.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates hospice marketing plans.
  • Identifies referral source needs and market needs.
  • Conducts onsite assessments of referrals prior to admission when necessary.
  • Organizes and arranges educational meetings for applicable referral sources.
  • Assists/leads hospice marketing team in expanding community referrals to ensure continual referral growth.
  • Reviews and assists in preparing weekly logs with summary of activity and marketing plan with the Liaisons.
  • Establishes a rapport with Medical Directors within assigned facilities and other outside physicians, working with them to implement marketing and educational programs.
  • Plans and organizes weekly business development meeting.
  • Assigns census goals and communicates them to Liaisons and Administrator effectively.
  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and private pay criteria for admission.
  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of all area hospitals’ discharge and referral procedures.
  • Develops and owns the annual business development and growth strategy, including new market entry, service-line expansion, and referral-channel diversification, in partnership with the Administrator.
  • Leads sales due diligence efforts related to market expansion, including evaluation of referral networks, key accounts, competitive landscapes, and business development opportunities to support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Translates competitive intelligence and census/payer mix trends into proactive growth strategy, identifying new opportunities and resolving barriers before they affect census.
  • Prepares and presents growth forecasts, quarterly goals, and strategic recommendations to the Administrator and senior leadership.
  • Partners cross-functionally with clinical, admissions, and P&C leadership to ensure growth strategy is operationally achievable and sustainable.
  • Manages and trains the business development team on Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law requirements as they apply to referral source relationships, ensuring all outreach and marketing activity stays within compliant boundaries.
  • Ensures the business development team's activities align with Valir's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct and promptly escalates any compliance concerns to the appropriate leadership.
