About The Position

This role involves leading strategic security initiatives, assessing departmental needs, and recommending solutions to enhance management and leadership abilities. The Director of Security is responsible for implementing and monitoring practices and procedures to improve day-to-day and long-range security operations, including profit and loss, customer satisfaction, and training programs. This includes conducting investigations into various security breaches, maintaining relationships with law enforcement, and providing consultation on gaming crimes. The position is also responsible for developing processes to protect the company, its employees, patrons, information, and reputation, ensuring the safety of staff and customers. This involves developing effective physical security programs, standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures to mitigate risks from known and anticipated threats. The role includes recruiting, interviewing, and screening candidates, performing background investigations, and developing training methods on cheating at gambling games. Additionally, the Director assists in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of budgets for Security, Traffic, and Law Enforcement areas, and oversees the recruitment, selection, training, compensation, and evaluation of subordinate positions. The role also encompasses responsibility for the Traffic department and employee parking, and implementing practices to enhance departmental plans.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years of Casino and Horse Racing security experience, at least Five (5) years of which shall have been in responsible charge of a security function OR an earned Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business, Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited institution of higher education and six (6) years of Casino security experience, at least four (4) years of which shall have been in responsible charge of a security function.
  • Thorough understanding of current security practices and standards.
  • Knowledge of Security development.
  • Understanding of the development of sound policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of risk management.
  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Dispatch systems.
  • Proficiency in a variety of database software.
  • Proficiency in software for viewing an integrated digital CCTV system.
  • Knowledge of all table games offered at the facility.
  • Strong understanding of games protection and methods of cheating.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly developed comprehension skills to read and interpret legal documents, a variety of reports (informational and financial), State, Federal and Administrative codes.
  • A valid driver’s License.
  • An Iowa Racing and Gaming License.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic initiatives and assess departmental needs.

  • Conduct investigations regarding theft, liability claims, robberies, burglaries, employee policy violations, missing and misappropriated funds, and other loss-resulting activities.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with local law enforcement, prosecuting agencies, and fire and rescue services.
  • Provide consultation to the County Attorney’s Office regarding gaming crimes.
  • Develop, direct, and manage processes to protect the company, its employees, patrons, information, and reputation.
  • Ensure the safety of the entire population of staff members and customers.
  • Ensure effective physical security programs and methods through the development of Standards, Guidelines, Policies and Procedures.
  • Recruit, interview, and screen applicants at and above the level of manager.
  • Perform background investigations on all levels of perspective employment candidates.
  • Develop training methods to educate Security and Law Enforcement staff on methods of cheating at gambling games.
  • Assist in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of annual budgets for Security, Traffic, and Law Enforcement areas.
  • Oversee the overall direction of recruiting, selection, training, compensation, and evaluation of 237 subordinate positions.
  • Manage the Traffic department and all employee parking.
  • Implement and monitor practices and procedures to enhance day-to-day and long-range departmental plans.
