About The Position

Oak Valley Health is seeking a visionary Director of Quality, Patient Safety and Interprofessional Practice to lead the strategic integration of clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and infection prevention. Reporting to the Vice President, Clinical Programs & Chief Nursing Executive, you will be instrumental in cultivating a high-reliability healthcare environment. In this critical leadership role, you will champion a collaborative learning culture that advances evidence-based nursing and allied health practices while maximizing professional scopes. Operating in a dyad leadership model with the Physician Lead of IPAC, and with the Physician Lead for Quality and Patient Safety, you will direct infection control operations and execute the governance required to build a best-in-class quality and safety program. You will also oversee a dedicated team, with direct reports including Managers of Infection Prevention & Control, Quality & Patient Safety, High Reliability Organization, and Professional Practice.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), Regulatory College Standards, ECFAA, QCIPA, and other relevant healthcare legislation.
  • Advanced practical experience utilizing QI methods, including Root Cause Analysis, PDSA, Lean, FMEA, IHI frameworks, and incident/risk tools.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, capacity planning, financial management, and leading large-scale healthcare transformations or MOHLTC initiatives within aggressive timelines.
  • Proven ability to leverage data to inform strategic decisions, critically appraise clinical practice, and implement innovative safety solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience providing leadership and oversight for hospital accreditation in accordance with Accreditation Canada standards.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills, with a proven team-based approach to negotiation, collaborative problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • A client-service oriented mindset with a commitment to providing an exceptional experience, consistently utilizing empathy in all interpersonal interactions.
  • Master’s Degree required (Nursing, Health Administration, Business Administration, or a related health field).
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or other healthcare discipline as appropriate is required.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in progressively responsible leadership positions required.
  • 5 to 7 years of clinical role/practice experience required.
  • 5 to 7 years of dedicated experience in quality and patient safety required.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal training in Quality, Patient Safety, and Health Care Improvement is considered a strong asset.
  • Additional training or certification in Project Management and Change Management is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction to cultivate a dynamic, patient-focused professional practice environment recognized for clinical excellence.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive nursing and interprofessional strategy ensuring staff operate to their full scope of practice in accordance with regulatory standards (e.g., CNO).
  • Act as a core clinical practice resource, advising senior management, directors, and clinical staff on the operational implications of professional practice.
  • Advance nursing and interdisciplinary practice through academic relations, community consultation, and professional publication.
  • Champion the organization’s transformation into a High Reliability Organization (HRO) by implementing robust frameworks for safety and quality improvement.
  • Oversee regulatory readiness, Accreditation, Quality of Care reviews, and the organizational incident management system.
  • Govern quality and safety initiatives by co-chairing the Corporate Quality Committee and providing strategic support to the Quality and Safety Committee of the Board.
  • Monitor organizational scorecards and execute action plans to achieve targeted safety outcomes.
  • Direct the development of evidence-based interventions to reduce or eliminate Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) and disease transmission.
  • Partner with the Physician Lead of IPAC to advise clinical leaders on infection prevention priorities and resource allocation.
  • Ensure rigorous compliance with regulatory requirements by managing disease outbreak investigations, conducting surveillance, and reporting to Public Health.
  • Foster a safe, equitable, and inclusive continuous-learning environment for clinical staff and advanced practice nurses.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and integrate professional care providers, Practice Leaders, and Clinical Informatics staff.
